Meet Dr. Matthew Kei

It is a privilege to be part of a patient’s orthodontic journey, and I am grateful for the opportunity to serve our Riversdale Orthodontics community. I am committed to personalised care and seek to understand patients’ unique goals and needs, always with the aim of delivering a positive treatment experience. For me, the best part about orthodontics is building relationships and seeing the end result for patients – beyond straightening teeth, it’s about boosting confidence, improving oral health and enhancing overall wellbeing.

Education

I completed a Bachelor of Dental Science degree from the University of Queensland, and worked as a general dentist for 10 years before completing a Doctorate of Clinical Dentistry at the University of Melbourne to become an orthodontist.

Dedicated to clinical excellence, I am also an Australasian Orthodontic Board Certified Specialist Orthodontist, which involves a process of peer review whereby treated cases are independently assessed and critiqued, to ensure that the highest quality outcomes are achieved.

Being committed to ongoing education to provide the best evidence-based care for my patients, I keep up to date on the latest advancements in orthodontics. As part of my continuing education, I have attained Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons, and have completed the College’s two-year membership program. I am also affiliated with the: Australian Society of Orthodontists, Australian Dental Association, World Federation of Orthodontists, and the American Association of Orthodontists.

Professional life

I grew up in Queensland, and spent several years working as a general dentist in both metropolitan and rural communities. Family commitments eventually took me to Sydney, where I spent 5 years managing and working at a busy general practice. As a keen traveller, I have also lived in central London, where I spent a year managing a large multidisciplinary dental practice in Westminster, next to the Houses of Parliament.

Outside the clinic

Beyond the clinic, my wife and I enjoy the outdoors – getting out to nature and hiking regularly, and sometimes bringing along our cheeky dog Wilbur, a West Highland White Terrier. We also love to travel and gain insights into new cultures, art and cuisines. More locally, we enjoy exploring new cafés, restaurants and cultural exhibitions. In my spare time, I like keeping active, playing tennis, and embarking on multi-day hikes. In 2022, I completed my first full marathon here in Melbourne, and I look forward to completing many more in the years to come!
